Dora Abodi grew up with Transylvania as a mental backdrop: castles, folklore, vampires, women too formidable to end up demure in a prim dress. With ABODI Transylvania, the Hungarian designer spins that inheritance into gothic couture—theatrical, almost mythic. Corsets, claws, capes, hybrid creatures, and the pleasant sense that every silhouette carries three centuries’ worth of badly digested secrets. In The Chronicles, ABODI summons Elisabeth Báthory, the countess tied to legends of blood, stolen youth and aristocratic terror. But here Báthory isn’t mere vampire chic scenery. She returns as a figure of female power—disturbing, magnetic, too large to be pinned down as the monster she was made to be. Handy, of course, when fashion occasionally needs a dangerous woman to rouse the room. To photograph this wearable mythology, ABODI enlists Szilveszter Makó, a Hungarian photographer whose images already feel like old master paintings surfaced from an over-lit dream. Between Dora Abodi’s gowns, Transylvanian creatures and Makó’s theatrical eye, the collection reads like a dark tale you could actually wear. Clothes to enter a room in like a vampire queen—tasteful enough not to smell of costume party.
